TrueTakeHomePay (https://truetakehomepay.com) is committed to protecting your privacy. This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our website and calculators, in compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), and other applicable privacy laws.

Calculator Inputs

All calculations are performed entirely in your browser using client-side JavaScript. Your salary, tax, and financial information never leaves your device. We do not collect, store, or transmit any calculator inputs to our servers. The technical architecture is designed according to the principle of "privacy by design".

For clarity, the website does not collect or process: salary or income data, Social Security numbers, tax filing information, bank account details, or any other personal financial information entered into the calculators.

Audience Measurement with Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which pages are useful: pages viewed, referring page, visit length, device and browser type, approximate country and city. To do so Google Analytics sets two cookies on your device: _ga, which tells visitors apart with a random identifier, and _ga_HEWD32N50T, which keeps the state of the visit. Their lifetime is set to 13 months at most (390 days) and is not extended on each visit; Google's default is 2 years.

The IP address is anonymized: Google Analytics 4 neither logs nor stores it, and only uses it at collection time to derive an approximate country and city. The page address sent to Google Analytics is stripped of its parameters, so the amounts carried by a share link are not included. The site shows no advertising: ad storage, ad user data, ad personalization and Google signals are switched off, and measurement data is shared with no advertiser.

  • Provider: Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland, acting as our processor (Art. 28 GDPR); Google LLC for US visitors.
  • Purpose: audience measurement.
  • Legal basis: our legitimate interest in knowing how the site is used in order to improve it (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR for EU visitors); under US law, this is not a sale of personal information and involves no targeted advertising.
  • Retention at Google: 14 months for visit-level and identifier-level data, then deletion; only anonymous totals remain.
  • Transfers: data may be transferred to Google LLC in the United States under the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework and the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.
  • Opting out: block or delete cookies in your browser settings, or install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on; every calculator keeps working.

Anonymous Stability Check (Microsoft Clarity, No Cookies)

To find paycheck calculators that break or load slowly, we run a technical, anonymous check of how the site behaves: script errors, load times, clicks that do nothing and scroll depth. It uses Microsoft Clarity in its cookieless mode: Clarity is told that storage is denied before its script loads, so it sets no _clck, _clsk, MUID or CLID cookie, gives each page view a new identifier and never links visits together. Page text and the amounts you enter (salary, state, filing status, 401(k) rate) are masked in your browser first.

  • Provider: Microsoft Ireland Operations Limited, One Microsoft Place, South County Business Park, Leopardstown, Dublin 18, Ireland.
  • Retention: recordings 30 days, aggregated statistics 13 months.
  • Basis: our legitimate interest in a working site (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR for EU visitors); under US law, this is not a sale or sharing of personal information and involves no targeted advertising.
  • Opting out: block clarity.ms in your browser or with a content blocker, or email us; every calculator keeps working.

URL Parameters

When you use our calculators, your inputs may be encoded in the page URL (e.g., ?gross=60000&state=CA) to enable sharing. This data is not transmitted to or stored on our servers. If you open a page through such a shared link, the page address is masked in the stability check and sent to Google Analytics without its parameters.

Server Log Files

Our hosting provider, GitHub Pages (GitHub, Inc.), keeps standard server logs (IP address, time of request, page requested, browser type) for security. We have no access to them and they are not merged with other data sources.

4. Cookies

The only cookies TrueTakeHomePay sets are the two Google Analytics audience measurement cookies described above (_ga and _ga_HEWD32N50T, 13 months at most): no advertising cookie and no social media cookie. Measurement relies on our legitimate interest, without a prior banner, and you can object at any time by blocking cookies or with the Google Analytics opt-out add-on. The calculators keep nothing on your device. If you press the dark/light theme button yourself, your browser remembers that one choice locally (localStorage key theme), which stays in your browser and is never sent anywhere.

5. Third-Party Services

Fonts are served from this site. Apart from Google Analytics and the cookieless Microsoft Clarity check described above, there are no other measurement tools, social media buttons, advertising widgets or remarketing services.

6. Your Rights Under CCPA (California Residents)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to:

  • Know what personal information we collect about you
  • Request deletion of your personal information
  • Opt out of the sale of your personal information (we do not sell personal data)
  • Not be discriminated against for exercising your privacy rights

We do not collect personal information through our calculators, and we do not sell, trade, or share personal data for advertising; Google Analytics acts as our service provider.

7. Your Rights Under GDPR (EU Users)

Under the General Data Protection Regulation, EU users have the following rights:

  • Right of access (Art. 15): obtain confirmation of whether personal data is being processed.
  • Right to rectification (Art. 16): obtain correction of inaccurate data.
  • Right to erasure (Art. 17): obtain deletion of personal data.
  • Right to restriction (Art. 18): restrict processing in certain cases.
  • Right to portability (Art. 20): receive data in a machine-readable format.
  • Right to object (Art. 21): object to processing on grounds relating to your situation.
  • Right to lodge a complaint (Art. 77): lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.

8. State Privacy Laws

We comply with applicable state privacy laws including the Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act (VCDPA), Colorado Privacy Act (CPA), Connecticut Data Privacy Act (CTDPA), and Utah Consumer Privacy Act (UCPA).

9. Children's Privacy

Our website is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children in compliance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

10. Data Security

Our website is served over a secure HTTPS connection that encrypts all data in transit. Appropriate technical and organizational measures are implemented to ensure a level of security appropriate to the risk.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or applicable law. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. The current version is always available on this page.
